Harry Goforth, age 82, of Hiddenite went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2012 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. He was born in Iredell County on November 20, 1929 to the late Arthur David and Bertha Shell Goforth. He served as a PFC in the US Army from 1954-1956 and then transferred to the Army Reserve until 1962 when he was honorable discharge with a Marksman Badge. Mr. Goforth was a farmer and worked at Southern Screw Company for 28 1/2 years. He also was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Stony Point. Including his parents he is preceded in death by five brothers: Marshal, David, Pervie, Harold and William Goforth and two sisters: Mae Balsavage and Juanita Goforth. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years; Emma Jean M. Goforth of the home; one brother: Roscoe Goforth of Wilmington, NC; two sons: Dale and wife Kitten Goforth and Brent and wife Kathy Goforth; three grandchildren: Chris Goforth and wife Jennifer, Karen Earp and husband Butch and Krystal Ray and husband Rusty and he also had five great grand-children all of Statesville.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. Service will be on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Stony Point, NC. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Rev. Mark Robinette and Rev. Joey Campbell will be officiating. Pallbearers include Chris Goforth, Rusty Ray, Butch Earp, Ted Upright, Scott Dixon, Ned Jordan, Kenny Elliott and Kenny Pearson. Full military rights will be provided by the VFW Post 10,000 and Post 5466. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Iredell County @ 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the Donors Choice.
