Hazel Wingler Kerley, age 98, passed away at The Gardens, Statesville, NC on Saturday, October 30, 2010.  She was born in Wilkes County on June 1, 1912, the daughter of the late Monroe and Dora Wingler.  She was a lifelong homemaker, seamstress, a member of Hiddenite Baptist Church for many years, and a present member of First Baptist Church of Statesville.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Donald L. Kerley; a young son, Wendell Kerley; an infant granddaughter, Tina Dawn Kerley, the daughter of Buford and Katherine Kerley; a son-in-law, DeWhitt Patterson; four sisters: Ola, Blanche, Gladys, and Marie; and two brothers, Quincy (Jim) and J.D. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, including four children, Phyllis Kerley Patterson of Statesville, Coleen Kerley Hendren and husband, Dave of Hiddenite, Buford Kerley and wife Katherine of Statesville, Lyndell Kerley and wife Linda of Hiddenite; one sister, Grace Dean Long of China Grove; nine grandchildren, Debbie Patterson of Key Largo, FL, Patrick Patterson of Homestead, FL, Teresa Hendren Brown and husband Kevin of New Hill, NC, Kimberly Hendren of Fairfax, VA, Donna Hendren Patrick and husband Tom of Flemington, NJ, Phoebe Kerley Boyd and husband Tony of Statesville, Todd Kerley and wife Karen of Statesville, Christopher Kerley of Kingsport, TN, and SSgt Michael Kerley of Goldsboro, NC; eight great grandchildren, Shannon Clontz, Ryan Clontz, Mark Patrick, Danielle Patrick, John Patrick, Tiffany Boyd Pigg, Hunter Kerley, and Natalie Kerley; two great-great grandchildren, Cadence Clontz and Taylor Pigg; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Hiddenite Baptist Church beginning at 1pm.  Funeral services will begin at 2pm with Dr. Jack Causey and Dr. Jeffrey A. Porter of First Baptist Church in Statesville officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery. Pallbearers will include grandchildren, Todd Kerley, Chris Kerley, Michael Kerley; and great-grandchildren, Mark Patrick, John Patrick, Shannon Clontz, Ryan Clontz, and Hunter Kerley. Memorials may be made to the Hiddenite Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund, 250 Hiddenite Church Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. The family expresses appreciation to The Gardens of Statesville; Dr. Andy White, Mrs. Kerley's personal physician; Dr. Hersey Miller, a supportive friend, and Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County for providing loving care, concern, and support.  Alexander Funeral Service of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.
