Helen Johnson Braswell

Helen Johnson Braswell, age 84, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Catawba County. She was born to the late Linzie and Maggie Benfield Johnson on Sunday, August 6, 1939, in Avery County. During her working career, Helen worked as an upholsterer seamstress for Emerson Leather and other manufactures in Hickory. Helen attended Millersville Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to widows meeting at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, traveling, music, yard work, and gardening.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Braswell; brothers, Earl Benfield, Roy Johnson, Paul Johnson, John Johnson, Junior Johnson, Ray Johnson, Harold Johnson, C.W. Johnson; sister, Cleola Morgan; and multiple siblings that passed as infants.

Those left to cherish the memories of Helen include her children, Charles Braswell Jr. and wife Penny Calhoun Braswell, Sherrie Braswell Orren and husband Rev. Bill Orren, Patrick Braswell and fiancé Lisa McGlamery; five grandchildren, Daniel Orren (Belinda), Charles Braswell III (Rebecca), Haley Kiser (John), Zack Orren, Avery Braswell and fiancé Alexis Gibson; great-grandchildren, Elijah Orren, Isaiah Orren, Jocelyn Braswell, Bella Orren, Emma Braswell, Luke Kiser, Olivia Orren, Amelia Orren, Kasey Fortenberry, Dustin Fortenberry; her special friend, Melvin Tucker.

A visitation will be held Friday, December 8, 2023, at Millersville Baptist Church from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, December 8, 2023, at Millersville Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bill Orren, Rev. Brian Kerley will officiate, and Haley Braswell Kiser will have some special words during the service. Daniel Orren, Charles Braswell III, Zack Orren, Avery Braswell, John Kiser, and Kasey Fortenberry will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Elijah Orren, Isaiah Orren, and Luke Kiser.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Millersville Christian Academy, 130 Millersville Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
