Helen Louise Stallings Lail, age 94 of Granite Falls passed away at Lutheran Home of Hickory on Saturday, August 31, 2013. Helen was born in Cabarrus County on November 14, 1918 to the late Malcolm Theo and Florence (Bradley) Stallings and was a retired textile worker. She was of the Church of God faith where she had been a children's Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed flowers, quilting, crocheting, sewing, and cooking. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Leroy Lail, two brothers - Jack and William (Buck) Stallings, one sister - Bernice S. Freeman, and one nephew - Gary Wayne Freeman. Those left to cherish her memories are a sister - Mary Frances Sloop and husband Wayne. Six children - Gary LaVon Lail of Charlotte, Norma Smith of Harrisburg, NC, Dean Lail and wife Linda of Granite Falls, John Lail of Raleigh, Benny Lail and wife Donna of Granite Falls, and Donna Coffey and husband David of Forest City. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great- grandchildren, 23 nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Visitation for Mrs. Lail will be held on Tuesday, September 3, from 2:30 - 4:00 pm at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church with the Funeral services to follow at the church at 4:00 pm. Rev. Don Ingle and Rev. Kenneth Hensley will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Larry Wright, T.J. Bates, Tearl Smith, Gary Lail, Jack Stallings, Jr., and Wayne Sloop, Jr. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made the Lutheran Home - Trinity Village @ 1265 21st Street, NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
