Herman “Bud” Fred Stocks, age 88, of Hiddenite passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 22, 1930, the son of the late James Elbert & Ruby Warren Stocks. During his career, Bud worked as a carpenter and also at Broyhill Furniture for 13 years. In his spare time would refinish pianos & organs. He honorably served in the US Army and was a faithful member & choir leader at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. Bud was a good godly man serving and taking care of his family & his church family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to all. Bud loved gospel music, playing the electric guitar, and singing, especially with his brothers. Along with his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his brothers Jim & Paul Stocks; and sisters Naomi Efird, Louise Fox, & Eula Mae Land.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years Barbara Jean Fox Stocks of the home; children Karen Denise Westbrook & husband Wayne of Taylorsville, Frederick Dennis Stocks of Hiddenite, and Christopher Dion Stocks & wife Danielle of Taylorsville; grandchildren Dana Leigh Gustin, Christopher Ethan Stocks, Jamison Reid Stocks, & Timothy Shane Westbrook; great-grandchildren Landon & Carter Gustin; brothers Leonard, Elbert, David, Lester, & Luther Stocks; along with a number of nieces & nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch King & Rev. Steve Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
