Hill Franklin Pennell, age 83, of Taylorsville, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at his residence. Born July 27, 1933 in Alexander County, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Estelle Poarch Pennell. Hill retired from Century Furniture after 48 years and loved the outdoors. He was also a cattle farmer and grower for Mountaire Farms. Hill was a veteran of the United States Army, and honorably served our country during the Korean Era. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Sam Pennell, Kelly Pennell, and Cleavie Pennell; two sisters: Mary Pennell Thomas and Annalene Pennell Austin; and one grandson: Adam Williams. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife for over 55 years: Bessie Walker Pennell, of the home; two sons: Dennis Pennell & wife Karen and Myron Pennell, of Taylorsville; three grand-daughters: Samantha Pennell & Marissa Pennell, of Taylorsville and Candace Markham, of Raleigh; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Neal Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Little, Jimmy Austin, Eugene White, Scott Hollar, Randy Derrer, Chad Pennell. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Presnell and Travis Anderson. Full military rites will be provided by the DAV Post 84, of Taylorsville and Post 6, of Lenoir.
