Houston Roscoe “Scrap” Ammons, age 69, of Bethlehem, passed away unexpectedly at this residence on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011. Born on July 1, 1942, in Swain County, NC, to the late Andrew Jackson and Grace Dehart Ammons, he was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was owner of Ammons 66 Service in Granite Falls, until his retirement. Scrap loved Nascar Racing, animals and Blue Grass Music. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Sherry Ammons, and one brother, Andrew Jackson “Red” Ammoms. He is survived by one son, Glenn Ammons, and wife Debbie of Taylorsville. Two step-children, Justin Kirby and April Kirby Eckard both of Granite Falls. Three grandchildren, Ryan and Maegan Ammons, and Grayson Kirby, all of Taylorsville. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Alethia Smith of Granite Falls. Scrap has one brother, James David Ammons of Hickory, and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will be private. Rev. Mark Morris will officiate. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Ln. Taylorsville, NC. 28681.
