Huron "Buster" Lackey,

d. January 16, 2016

H.L. "Buster" Lackey, age 92, of Taylorsville, went to his heavenly home on Friday, January 15, 2016. He was born in Alexander County on February 17, 1923. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Scott Lackey and their infant son, Mark Gordon Lackey. He was also predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Hazel Thomas Lackey and siblings; Thomas Lackey, Lib Knight, Martha Neal Bevis, Lorene Lackey, and Nancy Carrigan.

Mr. Lackey was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Taylorsville. He bravely served his country in the Army during WWII. Buster was one of the heroic Merrill's Marauders serving in Burma. This was an all volunteer Army of true heroes.

He was a professional truck driver for many years with Mayflower and then with Bassett. He later opened Hiddenite Fabric Shop for his Mom and continued to enjoy working there during his retirement. He never met a stranger and loved walking and going to the YMCA to exercise. He had a kind heart, a great sense of humor, and loved to talk. His advice was "Don't sweat the small stuff and It's all small stuff."

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Linda Lackey & husband Steve of Taylorsville, Judy Keighron of Statesville, Marlayne Staley & husband Darrell of Millers Creek. Also his much loved grandchildren; Andrew Lackey, Sarah Lackey, Laura Staley, and Meredith Staley.

The Memorial service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 1st Baptist Church, with the visitation following. Burial will take place at a later date.
