Jack McCurdy, age 83, of Hiddenite, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. He was born in Alexander County on March 17th, 1927 - son of the late John Walter and Willie Greene McCurdy. He was a retired farmer and owner of Farmers Oil Company. He was a WWII veteran. He was a charter member of Vashti Baptist Church where he taught the adult Sunday school class and lead the singing for 40 years. He was also a Gideon speaker. His greatest accomplishment was his family, and he loved and enjoyed each one so very much. He was our friend, teacher, and role model. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Erastus; childhood sister, Tiny Lucille; brothers: Mack, Bill, & Luke; and sister, Louise Barnette. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years, Ruby (Sarah) McCurdy; his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Brenda McCurdy; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Frank Ball; 6 grandchildren: Anita and Bob Leenerts, Tina and Mark Walker, Jenny and Jody Davis, Jason and Sarah McCurdy, Brandon and Sierra Ball, and Kevin Ball; 10 great-grandchildren: Atina and Nici Lennerts, Jackson and Dawson Walker, Gretchen and Parker Davis, Camden, Zack, and Zander McCurdy, and Mason Ball. Fueral Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 12th, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The Reverends Alan Fox, Tony Daniels, Bradley Johnson, and Gary Jennings will officiate. Burial will follow inVashti Baptist Church Cemetery.
