Jackie "Jack" Clanton, age 73, of Statesville passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Hospice of Iredell. Born on August 24, 1940 to the late James Shoemaker and Kate Clanton. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era in Japan and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Statesville. Jack owned United Country Realty and worked as a real estate broker and loved sales. He never met a stranger. He also enjoyed bowling, drag racing motorcycles and was an avid car collector, especially Corvettes. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his half-brother: Danny Shoemaker and aunt: Elizabeth "Wid" Clanton, who was like a mother to him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 17 years: Patricia "Pat" Watts Clanton of the home; children: Bradley Clanton and wife Terri of Statesville; Susan Bolden and husband Eddie of Lynchburg, TN and Matthew Clanton and wife Shirley of Buffalo, NY; half-brothers: Larry Shoemaker of Winston-Salem and Mickey Shoemaker of Jonesville; sister: Cecile Masters and husband Isadore of Statesville; and grandchildren: Nolan Whitaker and Skylar Clanton of Buffalo, NY; Hunter and Cole Bolden of Lynchburg, TN; and Kristen Clanton of Statesville.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Beulah Baptist Church in Statesville and Service will begin at 3:00 pm with Dr. Allen Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be provided by Iredell Memorial Veterans Counsel. Memorials may be sent to Beulah Baptist Church at 1851 Old Mountain Rd, Statesville, NC 28677 or to Hospice of Iredell at 2347 Simonton Rd, Statesville, NC 28677.
