Jama Lackey Keever, age 91, of Hiddenite, passed away at Valley Nursing Center on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010. She was born on October 21st, 1918 in Alexander County to her parents, the late Newt and Lottie Lackey. She was a lifelong member of Hiddenite Baptist Church where she served as organist, choir member and church secretary. She was a retired employee of the Alexander County school system and was the secretary of Hiddenite school for 21 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Foy Keever; 3 sisters; Thelma Lackey Warren, Sadie Lackey Sherrill, Gladys Lackey Thomas; and one brother: Harlan Lackey. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Tim Keever & wife Debbie of Hiddenite; 2 grandchildren: Matt Keever & wife Jennifer of Statesville and Amber Keever of Hiddenite; and also, 1 great-granddaughter: Raeghan Hope Keever of Statesville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26th at Alexander Funeral Service from 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 27th at 11:00 AM at Hiddenite Baptist Church where Pastors Terry Ashe and Wade Wright will officiate. Burial to follow in Hiddenite Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Debt Retirement @ Hiddenite Baptist Church (250 Hiddenite Church Road, Hiddenite – 28636) OR to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley (3975 Robinson Road, Newton – 28658).
