James Edward Abernathy

James Edward Abernathy, age 80, was born on Monday, January 17, 1944, in Burke County to the late Charles Hull and Ila Mae Abernathy. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at The Greens at Hickory in Catawba County.

James was a man of principle, proud of his Baptist faith. His spirituality guided him throughout his life and was a source of strength for his family. James found joy in simple pleasures; he thoroughly enjoyed fishing and doing yard work, activities that often brought him closer to nature and provided him with moments of peace and reflection.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Tina Abernathy (Charles Eric Barnes) and Jammie Smith, along with his cherished grandchildren, Veronica Abernathy, Kirsten Abernathy, Tierney Abernathy, Jenesis Brookins, and Jimmy Brookins Jr. James was also a treasured great-grandfather, leaving behind Neenah Abernathy and Nariah Abernathy to carry on his legacy.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Craft Abernathy.

No services are planned at this time. Inurnment will be with the family.
