James Curtis “Paw” Deal of Taylorsville, NC, went home to be with his heavenly father on June 23, 2016 after a battle with cancer. He was born on June 16, 1932. He is survived by his wife, Ola W. Deal; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Harvey Lafone of Taylorsville; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sara Deal of Hudson; a grandson and his family Scott and Shelley Lafone and their children, Justin, Josh, and Jacob of Taylorsville; a granddaughter and her husband, Angel L. Johnson and Brian of Hickory and their daughter Katie & their granddaughter Emily.
Also surviving is a sister Alice Thomas of Lewisville, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hoy and Ina Deal; a sister, Geneva Hull; and a brother, Clyde Deal.
Mr. Deal retired from Southern Hosiery in Hickory, where he was employed as a supervisor for more than 50 years. He served as a Sgt. in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He also served as chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee and the chairman of the Cemetery Committee at Springs Road Baptist Church in Hickory.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church located on Hwy. 16 N. Taylorsville. The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. Pastors Eddie Yount and Bob Philbeck will officiate the funeral service beginning at 4 p.m. Burial will follow with full military honors at Springs Road Baptist Church in Hickory. Military rites provided by DAV post 84 and 6.
