James David "JD" Harrington, age 78, of the Friendship Community, Taylorsville, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014, at his residence, following a period of declining health. He was born in Alexander County on Saturday, December 21, 1935 to the late Houston Harrington and Mary Burke Harrington. JD served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a member of Friendship Lutheran Church and he developed many relationships with local pastors. JD retired from Clayton Marcus Furniture as a furniture worker. He enjoyed his tractor and wood splitting, working on lawn mowers and wildflower gardening. Along with his parents, JD was preceded in death by his brother: Luke Harrington; sister: Linda Harrington Cohen; and great grandson: Tyler Chwast. Survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years: Lulabell Mitchell Harrington of Taylorsville; daughters: Cindy Harrington Hefner and Randy of Taylorsville, Lisa Harrington of Taylorsville, and Patti Harrington Barr and Terry of Wilkesboro; grandchildren: Sommer Hefner McDill and John, Joshua Harrington and Christy, Ashley Harrington, Heidi Hefner Collins and David, Tabatha Hefner and Andy Little, Jason Barr and Heather, Emily Harrington Atwood and Chris, Jamie Barr Deal and Mike, and Joy Barr; great grandchildren: Daisy Chwast, Kanon Harrington, Leanna Collins, Chesney Collins, Luke Collins, TJ Norton, Cody Garren, and C. J. McDill; sister: Louise Isenhour of Richfield, NC; and brother: Thomas Harrington of Claremont, NC.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Friendship Lutheran Church with the Rev. Phil Thorsen officiating. After the service, the burial will take place in the church cemetery and the family will receive friends following the burial at Friendship Lutheran Church. Pallbearers include: Joshua, Ashley, Jason, Chris, Mike, Andy, David, John, and Joy; with Honorary pallbearers: T. J., Cody, John Lackey and Wade Price. Military rites will be provided by DAV Chapter 84 of Taylorsville and Chapter 6, of Hudson. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Helping Hands and Backpack Kids at Friendship Lutheran Church 5300 Church Rd; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
