Mr. James Elbert Stocks Jr. 81, of China Grove went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April, 6, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born March 3, 1935 in Alexander County to the late James Elbert Stocks and Ruby Caroline Warren Stocks. He was a member of Concord First Assembly where he was active in various phases of the church. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. James sang with the Singing Men of America for ten years, and sang with Arthur Smith and many quartets at many churches.
James loved his Lord and Savior, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. He was very talented and liked to play and sing gospel music. He was very proud to have served in the United States Marines
The Stocks Family will receive friends and guests Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Whitley’s Funeral Home from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Concord First Assembly, The Village, Suite 15, with Pastor Brad Hargett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Salisbury National Cemetery.
James was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie H. Stocks, sons Jimmie James Elbert Stocks III of Marion, N.C. Dale Stocks (Caren) of Sarasota, Florida, Paul Stocks of Mint Hill, N.C., Marty Stocks of Cashiers, N.C., Jessie Jones ( Brandy ) of Cashiers, N.C., Phil Helms ( Sheila ) of China Grove, N.C., Three daughters, Teresa Smith ( David ) of Atlanta, Ga., Teri Brown ( Mark ) of Salisbury, N.C., Sabrina Black ( Jeff ) of Concord, N.C. Six brothers, Fred Stocks and Elbert Stocks, David Stocks ( Diane ) all of Hiddenite, N.C., Luther Stocks ( Melissa ) of Taylorsville, N.C., Leonard Stocks (Alice ) of Concord, N.C., Lester Stocks ( Elaine ) of Kannapolis, N.C. Twelve grandchildren, Ashley Overcash ( Chase ) of Salisbury, N.C., Zack Jones of Danville, Va., Maria Stafford, Courtney Stocks both of Sarasota, Florida, Samantha Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Caylee Jones, Caylib Jones, Sara Jones and Jessie Jones all of Cashiers, N.C., Trevor Hartley of Raleigh , N.C., Brook Helms and Nick Helms both of China Grove, N.C.
