James "Harold" Goforth, age 72, of North Wilkesboro, passed away after an extended illness at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on Thursday, June 26, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Cabarrus County, NC on October 26, 1941 to the late Charlie and Evelyn Goforth. Harold was a hard worker all of his life and prior to retirement he worked in the furniture industry. Early in life he served in the US Army and was also an avid Nascar fan. Harold was of the Baptist faith and he loved to play guitar. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dessie Elder.



He is survived by his wife, Betty Goforth of the home; daughters: Lisa Cole and husband, Jeff, of Greensboro, and Freda Eller and husband, Bobby, of Moravian Falls; son: Daryl Goforth and wife, Darlene of North Wilkesboro; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister: Priscilla Goforth Carrigan and husband, Bobby of Taylorsville; brothers: Jimmy Goforth, and wife Sharon of Hiddenite, Donnie Goforth and wife, Patsy of Hiddenite, and Ronnie Goforth and wife, Renee, of Stony Point; along with a number of nieces and nephews.



Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The service will follow at 3:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Gary Jennings officiating. Burial will occur at Rocky Face Baptist Church after the service. Pallbearers include Bryan Goforth, David Goforth, Jody Goforth, Scott Johnson, Darrin Carrigan, Wesley Griffith, and Honorary Pallbearer, Bradley Carrigan. Military rites provided by DAV Chapter 84, of Taylorsville, and Chapter 6, of Hudson. Gideon Bibles may be placed in lieu of flowers.
