James Patterson Mast

James Patterson Mast, age 83, of Taylorsville, passed away at Catawba Regional Hospice on October 4, 2016. Mr. Mast was born in Washington County, Virginia on November 2, 1932 to the late Andy Patterson and Collie Mahala Mast.
He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, working on vintage automobiles, and was a fan of Nascar & and western movies.
In addition to Mr. Mast parents he was preceded in death by, his wife of 46 years, Georgia Oaks Mast, two brothers: Roy & Andy; and two sisters: Geraldine & Judith.
Mr. Mast leaves to carry on his legacy, one son, Wilson Phelps & wife Melanie, three daughters: Nancy Powell, Sandra Shepherd, and Tamara Dew & husband Grady all of Taylorsville; five grandchildren: Graham W. Phelps, James David Mast, William Brandon Frye, Jesse Ray Kelley, and Jason Christopher Kelley; ten great grandchildren, two brothers: Johnny Mast of Taylorsville and Manly Mast of Boone; two sisters: Annie Bowman of Maiden and Carolyn Trivette of Granite Falls; and a number of nieces, nephews, and a special friend Bud Oaks.
Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2016 from 2:00-3:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral will follow at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Gary W. Jennings will be officiating. Burial will take place in the Friendship Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family requests in addition to flowers that memorials be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658
