Jarel Dane Icenhour, 86, of Taylorsville passed away Saturday morning, February 9 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born to the late Garland Shields and Neva Frances Bowman Icenhour on January 17, 1927, he was a loving husband and father who loved his family and church family. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and served as the Brotherhood President and other church organizations. Jarel served in the US Army during World War II in Germany and received an Honorable discharge with the Victory and Occupation Medal. He was retired from Hickory Manufacturing Co. in the Chair Department after 42 years of service then worked with his son in the Logging & Timber Industry for 16 years. Jarel also loved to farm with his Massey Ferguson tractors. Including his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters - Iretha Isenhour, Olivia Isenhour and Zelda Bowman and two brothers - Kenneth and Dwane Icenhour. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years - Lucy Mae Teague Icenhour; daughter - Sharon I. Austin and husband Kenneth; son - Darrell Icenhour; two grandchildren - Rev. Stacy Austin and wife Janet and Erica Austin; three great grandchildren - Isaac, Hunter and Rylan Austin; one sister - Jazetta I. Sharpe and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church. Service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 4:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Morris and Rev. Stacy Austin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard Post 48.
