Jay Lee Price, age 96, of Stony Point, entered into his eternal home on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Gordon's Hospice House in Statesville after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Walter Zeb and Lucy G. Sipe Price. Mr. Price was born on July 1, 1919 in Alexander County. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Patton's Armored Division as a Tank Driver in Germany, England, and France. He was a lifelong member of Friendship Lutheran Church. Mr. Price was a retired volunteer fireman and charter member of the Stony Point Fire Department and served as Director. He loved farming & gardening and was known for growing the tallest tomato plants, raising Charolais cows, and his daily routine of breakfast at Jean's Grill. He was a loyal supporter of the Alexander County Democratic Party. He retired from Kewaunee Technical Institute where he was employed as a Kiln Foreman.
In addition to his parents Mr. Price was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Virginia Watts Price, one son Dale Edward Price, two sisters: Vertie P. Echerd & husband Fred and Leona Price; five brothers: Levi & wife Cleo, Raymond & wife Annie, Clifford & wife Reba, Willard & wife Ruth, Roy & wife Irene; and one sister in law Nancy L. Watts.
Left to cherish Mr. Price's memories include, one son Larry N. Price & wife Twyla of Stony Point, one daughter Wanda Harrington & husband Don of Hiddenite, four grandchildren: Bradley Harrington & wife Kate, Mark Harrington & wife Carla, Jamie Peoples & husband Michael, Ashley Price & wife Natalie; one step grandson Ricky Wiggins, eight great grandchildren: Darion, Katelyn, Brailey, & Braxton Harrington, Bryson & Tucker Peoples, Ashlyn & Avery Price; one sister Marie Price, brother in law Billy Ray Watts, and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Price's caregiver, Patsy Bentley for the loving care she gave as well as Gordon's Hospice of Iredell County.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Friendship Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 4:30 pm. Pastor Carol Yeager and Pastor Gregory Yeager will be officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Full Military Rites will be provided by DAV Chapter 84 of Taylorsville & Chapter 6 of Hudson. Pallbearers will include: Bradley Harrington, Mark Harrington, Ashley Price, Michael Peoples, Brian "Buck" Stikeleather, and Randy Dillinger. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Dave Stokes, Derek Fox, Archie Childers, Pete Stikeleather, Clyde Beach, Jimmy Mays, Ricky Wiggins, & Jerry Hager.
