Jimmy Franklin Caldwell, 82, of Hickory, passed away, Tuesday, April 21st, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. Jimmy was born in Alexander County, July 21st, 1932 to the late Clarence and Effie Caldwell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, George, Claude, Edith and Mary Caldwell.

Jimmy was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church for 51 years. He served as corporal with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Hickory Springs Manufacturing for 39 years until retiring in 1994.   After retirement, Jimmy enjoyed running cars with his friends for Randy Marion, his morning coffee with his friends each day, bluegrass music, fishing and carpentry.  He also enjoyed his gardening and sharing that with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Lillian Deal Caldwell of the home; daughter, Diane Caldwell Greene and husband Shannon of Hickory, son Gregory Caldwell and wife Cindy of Hickory, son Kevin Caldwell and wife Jane of Charlotte, brother Stan Caldwell and wife Rosemary of Ocala, FL, grandchildren Julie Patrick and husband Richie, Ashley McAlpin and husband Cory, Brittany Jones and husband Bobby, Christopher, Caroline and Adam Caldwell, great-grandsons Conor Scott, Chanceton Patrick and Colton Jones. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 pm Friday, April 24, 2015 at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church.  The funeral service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will follow at 3 p.m.   Rev. Homer F. Greene will officiate.   Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory.  The family will receive friends Friday  from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.  at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church.   Those serving as pallbearers Christopher Caldwell, Adam Caldwell, Cory McAlpin, Ramie Robinson, Allen Wagner and Shawn Greene. Mr. Caldwell will receive full military rights provided by Sandy Ridge American Legion post 544.
