Joe E. Ferguson Sr., age 79, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday morning, September 13th, 2010. He was born on February 4th, 1931 in Alexander County, to parents Guy Reginald and Allie Robinette Ferguson. Joe served in the U.S. Navy in Korea, attached to the Marines, as a medical corpman from 1951 – 1954, for which he was awarded a bronze star. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter, and in later life an avid fisherman. His last years were spent in sharing in the joy of his grand-children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Fox Ferguson; one brother, Guy William Ferguson; and one sister, Barbara Ferguson Johnson. Those left to cherish his memory include his 3 sons: Joe E. Ferguson Jr. & wife Anna, Scott Ferguson & wife Kim – both of Taylorsville, Barry Ferguson & wife Debbie of Lexington; and one daughter, Angela Rogers of Taylorsville. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Pressley of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; one sister-in-law, Bobbie Ferguson & special friend Rochelle Price – both of Taylorsville; 11 grand-children: Thomas & Sara Kate Ferguson, Ryan Rector, Phillip, Landon, & Garrett Ferguson, Caleb & Noah Rogers – all of Taylorsville, Julie Ferguson of Durham, Clint Frye of Austin, TX; & Leslie Frye; and one great-grandchild: Davis Frye – both of Clemmons. Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 15th at Antioch Baptist Church at 3:00 P.M. where Mark Morris and Roger Underwood will officiate.
