John Ray Alspaugh, age 73, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Valley Nursing Center in Alexander County. He was born to the late Edward and Eva Auton Alspaugh on Saturday, August 20, 1949, in Caldwell County. Mr. Alspaugh proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. John was a counselor in the mental health field. He spoke Mandarin, and John loved traveling and seeing the world.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vicky Harris Alspaugh; brother, Jerry Lynn Alspaugh; and sister, Brenda Alspaugh Hoover Riddle.
Those left to cherish the memories of John include his sons, Matthew Scott Alspaugh and Jayson Allen Alspaugh; stepson, Michael Brandon Allen; step-granddaughters, Hailey, Miranda, and Aliza Allen; sisters, Judy Alspaugh Hoover and Betty Jo Alspaugh Riddle; brother-in-laws, Adrian Harris and Timothy Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Alexander Funeral Service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 28, 2023, in the Alexander Funeral Service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mark Marshall and Rev. Jamie Steele will officiate.
Military Rites will be provided.
