Joseph Mitchell Jr.,

Joseph Monroe Mitchell Jr.; age 85, of Taylorsville, passed away on Sunday, October 31st, 2010.  He was born in Orange County, NC on September 26th, 1925 to parents Joseph Monroe Mitchell Sr. and Ester Missoura Harris Mitchell.  He was a WWII Navy veteran and was an electrician for Glenn L. Martin Aircraft and the Chrysler Corp. Assembly Plant, and in addition, he worked in Auto Sales at Empire Cadillac in Wilkesboro.  Joseph was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Jolly; 4 sisters: Lola Swanson, Alice Church, Doris Rose Mitchell, and Christine Freeland; and 2 brothers: Luther & Duke Mitchell.  Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Mildred McHone Mitchell; 2 sons: Joseph Monroe Mitchell III of Henderson, KY, & William Randolph Mitchell of Taylorsville; 5 daughters: Sherrilyn Jean Mulligan of Taylorsville, Dianna Louise Mitchell Moody of Bradenton, FL, Elizabeth Ann Smart of Tampa, FL, and Rose Marie Sherrill of Lincolnton; and Doris Lea Mitchell of Taylorsville; his brother, Richard Dale “R.D.” Mitchell of Fort Worth, TX; and 2 sisters: Elizabeth Wingler of Moravian Falls, & Elva Robinson of Clarindon, TX.  Joseph also leaves behind 26 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010 at East Taylorsville Baptist Church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Service will follow at 7:00 P.M. at the church.  Burial will follow Wednesday, November 3rd in the Taylorsville City Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. where VFW Post 10,000 will render military rites.   Alexander Funeral Service has been entrusted with arrangements.
