Joseph Burton Reid

Joseph “Burton” Reid age 80 of Taylorsville passed away on Tuesday morning, July 13, 2021. Burton was born on December 28, 1940, to the late Hayden Burke and Cecil Pennell Reid in Caldwell County. During Burton’s working career he worked as heavy equipment operator, electrician, cut timber, and finally was a truck driver for the furniture industry. He was a member of Oxford Memorial Baptist Church, enjoyed hunting, farming, and loved his dogs. Burton will also be remembered for raising a garden every year in order to distribute the produce to those in the community who couldn’t help themselves.
In addition to his parents, Burton was preceded in death by a child, David Lee Reid and two brothers, James Donald Reid and Larry Blaine Reid.
Those left to cherish the memories of Burton include his wife of sixty-two years, Ruth Keever Reid, three children, Deborah Reid (Barry) Roberts of Hickory, Martha Reid (Tim) Blakley, of Troy, Rebecca Reid and fiancé Todd Roberts of Taylorsville. Thirteen grandchildren, Kip (Dawn) Roberts of Hickory, Cory (Lauren) Roberts of Conover, Elizabeth Roberts of Germany, Luke Roberts and Kathy of Lenoir, Katie Roberts of Hickory, Laurie (Jimmy) Braymer of Lemoore, California, Hannah Roberts of Catawba, Caleb (Heather) Roberts of San Diego, California, Ashlynn (Jimmy) Wessollek of Taylorsville, Mathew Reid of Hickory, Tanner Austin of Knoxville, Tennessee, Beth Blakely and fiancé Austin Crumpler of Pittsboro, Sarah (Cody)Leftwich of Mt. Airy. Twelve great-grandchildren, three sisters, Millie Brookshire of High Point, Sandra (Coy) Pearson of Taylorsville, Jacque (Jerry) Hollar of Conover, Vickie White of Stony Point, NC. brother, Bruce Dale (Flaxen) Reid of Taylorsville, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Reid’s family will be conducted at Alexander Funeral Service on Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 3:00 pm. Rev. Neal Walker and Rev. Larry Blakely will officiate. Interment will be in the Oxford Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kip Roberts, Cory Roberts, Luke Roberts, Jimmy Wessollek, Mathew Reid, and Tanner Austin.
