Joseph Weddie “JW” Campbell Jr., age 79, of Union Grove,  passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 in Gordon Hospice House, Statesville. Born Jan. 27, 1932 in Alexander Co. to the late Joseph Weddie Campbell Sr. and Garnet Gertrude Queen Campbell, he was a farmer and operated Campbell’s Feed and Fertilizer, at Linney’s Mill. He was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where he had served as Sunday School class secretary, and rang the church bell every Sunday morning to begin services. He loved farming and was proud of his 1931 Ford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in 1952 - 1954. Sunday afternoons where not complete without his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a friend to everyone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, JM and Bertha Link.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Eveleen Link Campbell of the home. Three sons: Joey and wife, Pam; Donald and wife, Jan; Randy and wife Renee all of Union Grove. Ten grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. One brother, Ralph Campbell and wife Pauline of Troutman and one sister, Ruth Hayes of Hiddenite.  Visitation will be held, Monday, evening, Aug. 1, 2011, at Alexander Funeral Service in Taylorsville, from 6-9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Lambert and Rev. Phil Chapman, officiating. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body will lie in state thirty minutes before the funeral hour. Graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 10,000 of Hiddenite.
