Mrs. Juanita Cranford Gant went home to be with her Heavenly Father on July 2, 2016. She was born on June 29, 1932 in Biscoe, NC. Juanita was the fifth of the eleven children of Minnie Minton and Roy F. Cranford, Sr. She married the love of her life, Willis
Gant, on June 14, 1952. Juanita was a former member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She later joined Liledoun Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
She was predeceased by her parents and by her husband who passed away on January 1, 1987. In addition she was preceded in death by her siblings: Milton Cranford, Mary Bain, Bob Cranford, Joyce Whitt, Clifton Cranford and Jerry Cranford: sisters-in-law Hessie Goble (Porter) , Ruth Baker (Robert), and Jean Cranford: brothers-in-law Leonard Gant, Lloyd Bowen, and Curtis Bain. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Brenda Waters and husband Dennis of Taylorsville, son John Gant and wife Robin of Taylorsville: grandchildren Skip Waters, Brett Waters, Trisha Waters Fox and husband Derrick, and Courtney Gant; great-grandchildren Evan Waters, Jackson Fox and Austin Fox, siblings Mildred Bowen, Frank Cranford(Hazel), George Cranford (Judy) and Ronnie Cranford(Shirley); sisters-in-law Madelyn Gant, Bernadette Cranford and Margaret Cranford; brother-in-law Lacy Whitt; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Juanita cherished her friends and family and especially appreciated her relationship with a special niece, Gina Cranford, and friends Denise Mitchell Rhyne and Tim Moose. She had a dear friendship with Myrium Stewart for over sixty years. They shared a passion for decorating countless birthday and wedding cakes, creating draperies, taking short excursions and enjoying a good conversation over a hot cup of coffee.
Juanita was the former owner and operator of Juanita's Beauty Shop for over fifty years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and entertained those around her with her many stories. Juanita had many passions in her life including crafting, gardening, sewing, and baking Amish Cinnamon Bread. She was a very accomplished self-taught painter, specializing in old homes, barns, and coastal scenes. Her biggest passion was salt-water fishing. Juanita loved to travel with Willis and her family to Ocracoke. After his death she introduced Ocracoke and surf fishing to many friends and family.
A service to celebrate Juanita's life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Service with Rev. Coy Walker officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00pm until 2 pm. Burial will be in the Liledoun Baptist Church Cemetery. In honor of all they did for Juanita, her family would especially like to acknowledge the exceptional care and support she received from the caring staff at Hospice and Home Care of Alexander County and encourage memorials to be given to them in lieu of flowers. Juanita and her family have given Alexander Funeral Service the privilege of caring for them.
