Julia Mae McCurdy, age 81, of the Vashti Rd, passed away at Wilkes Regional Medical Center on Thursday, September 17, 2015 following a period of declining health. Born on Friday, September 14, 1934 to the late Ambrose and Ruby Daniels Bentley in Alexander County. Julia was a member of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Statesville. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially around flowers and indoors visiting with friends or reading. She was an excellent cook.

In addition to Julia's parents she was preceded in death by her late husband Luke McCurdy and sister in law Nancy Bentley.

Survivors include; two sons John McCurdy and wife Carol, Philip McCurdy and wife Heather both of Taylorsville,

one daughter Susan Curry and husband Terry of Stony Point, two brothers Bobby Bentley, Belva Bentley and wife Patsy both of Taylorsville, one sister Hazelene "Hazel" Munday and husband James of Statesville, four grandchildren Kirby Ray, Lydia Jordan, Holden Thomas Ray, & Emery Luke McCurdy, and a number of nieces, nephews and special friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Taylorsville. Elder Bobby Loudermilk and Rev. Steve Dagenhart will be officiating. Burial will take place in the Shady Grove Cemetery. The family requests that in addition to flowers memorials be made to The Alzheimer's Association,  3800 Shamrock Dr, Charlotte, NC 28215. The family is being served by Wake Forest Hospice in aftercare. Alexander Funeral Service is serving the family of Julia Mae McCurdy.
