Karen Parkhurst Nestor, 57, of Bethlehem went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, following a period of declining health.
Born October 6, 1956, She was the daughter of Dolores and the late Charles Parkhurst of Bethlehem.
Karen graduated from Alexander Central High School in 1974 and has been employed by HSM Solutions for the last 15 years.
She was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church in Taylorsville for the past 12 years, where she served as Music Director and Organist. She had a love and passion for music, but also held many positions with the Youth and Women of the ELCA both local and statewide. Karen was known for her elaborate Vacation Bible Schools and was instrumental in the annual Fall Festival, which she loved. She previously served as organist for Shiloh Lutheran and Sardis Lutheran in Hickory.
Karen is survived by her husband, Tom Nestor of the home. In addition to her husband, those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Brandy Smith Honeycutt and husband David of King, NC; and Ashleigh Nestor and Joey Hamby of Bethlehem; two grandsons Greyson Avery Nestor of Bethlehem; and Kenan Charles Honeycutt of the womb; one sister Donna White and husband Jerry of Bethlehem; two brothers, Jeff Parkhurst of Bethlehem; and Norman Parkurst and wife Donna of Greenville, NC; Stepsons Scott and Keith Nestor; Stepdaughter Angie Whisenant and families ; and many nieces and nephews.
A candlelight service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at Reformation Lutheran Church at 7pm, with Rev. Craig Sigmon and Rev. Lewis Murdock officiating. A celebration of life will be held following the service in Reformation Hall.
