Kenneth Greg Hawkins, age 53, of Stony Point, passed away at Carolina’s Medical Center Charlotte on Saturday evening, January 14th, 2012. He was born on November 20th, 1958, in Orleans’s Parish, La., to the late Kenneth Burl Hawkins and Reba Ann Franklin Reed, who survives. He lived out his Christian faith by attending Kingdom Way Church in Scotts, NC. Greg was employed by Rock- Tenn in Conover. He had been employed at Matsushita Corp. in Mooresville. He was an upholsterer for Clayton-Marcus, CraftMaster, Lewittes, and Broyhill. He was well known as a bass guitarist for Crystal Creek Express, and was a martial artist with a second degree black belt. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his step-father, Cecil Reed of Princeton WV; as well as his wife, Judith of the home; his son, Darus Hawkins and wife Maria of Bethlehem; and a daughter, Alyssa Johnson and husband Clarence of Stony Point. Greg has three step-children: Richard Brake II of Morgantown, WV, Donald Brake of Martinsburg, WV; and Carolyn Brake of Apex, NC. One sister, Karen Hawkins Barnette and husband Jimmy of Taylorsville; niece, Casey White of Taylorsville; and one nephew, Kenny Barnette, of Wilkesboro. He had special friends who were like brothers to him: Edwin Klavar, Glenn Mitchell, and Scott Miller. Visitation will be conducted on Saturday, January 21st 2012 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6-8 P.M. A celebration of life will immediately follow the visitation in the Alexander Funeral Chapel.
