Larry Gene Childress

Larry Gene Childress, age 85, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at his home in Alexander County. He was born to the late Lee Shafter Childress and Annie Ball Childress on August 26, 1937, in Wilkes County. Mr. Childress was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was very involved in church and in camp meeting. Larry enjoyed gardening, coon hunting, and fishing.

Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Childress, sister, Janie Greenwood, granddaughter, Sabra Wilmoth, and great-grandson, Cole Carson.

Those left to cherish the memories of Larry include his wife of 64 years, Joyce Irene Childress, sons, Roger Childress, Robert Childress (Tina), daughters, Deby Evans (Reggie), Karen Echerd (Eugene), six grandchildren, Justin Childress (Candy), Kisha Carson (Brian), Nathan Echerd (Ashlyn), Ryan Echerd, Dakota Passmore, Ashlyn Passmore, six great-grandchildren, six siblings, and a number of nieces, nephews, and special friends.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 19, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will be Monday, December 19, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Mt. Herman Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Dagenhart, Rev. Taylor Miller, and Rev. Paul Schronce will officiate. Reggie Evans, Eugene Echerd, Justin Childress, Aaron Dyson, Ryan Echerd, and Rocky Chapman will serve as pallbearers. Keaton Carson will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Calvary Camp Meeting and Calvary Baptist Church, in care of Kevin Payne, 2570 Goble Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636.
