Larry Douglas Chapman,

Larry Douglas Chapman, age 74, of Taylorsville, (known to many as "Super"), passed away at Catawba Valley Medical Center on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. He was the son of the late Ned Crowson and Beulah Inez Dyson Chapman. Mr. Chapman was born on July 18, 1941 in Alexander County. Larry loved his family whom came second only to God. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church. He married the love of his life Jenny Ball Chapman in 1962. Mr. Chapman retired from Craftmaster Furniture as Vice President. During his 8 years of retirement he read his bible all the way through six times. He spent quite a bit of time reading while waiting in the car for his wife to finish shopping. His passion was British imported convertible sports cars. He enjoyed coaching and umpiring baseball when his son was a young boy  and more recently feeding the neighborhood dogs. He was fully committed to anything he ever did, he never gave up until the task was finished.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by sister Sybil Chapman and brothers Arnold, Ricky, and Fred Chapman.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of the home, son Doug Chapman & wife Angie Baker Chapman of Shadyshores, Texas, daughter Amy Chapman Collins & husband Shan of Lincolnton, grandchildren; Olivia, Caroline, Lizzy, & Jennifer Chapman, Abby & Austin Collins, brother Hall Chapman, sister Patsy Goforth, and a number of nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Visitation is 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Service. The Funeral service will take place Sunday, January 10, 2016 3:00 pm at Berea Baptist Church. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Dr. Sheridan E. Stanton will be officiating the service.
