Leona Daphne Smith Lackey, 81, of 201 James Road, Taylorsville, went home to be with her Saviour, Tuesday evening, November 20, 2012 at 7 pm at Catawba Valley Medical Center surrounded by her family and friends following a brief illness. Leona was born April 27, 1931 to the late Alfred M. Smith and Lydia C. Treadway Smith Ellis Holder. She was retired from Carolina Glove Company and a homemaker; a faithful member of Liledoun Baptist Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher for the Adult Women II Sunday School Class. Besides her parents, Leona was preceded in death by one sister, Georgia (Dwight) Warren. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, James Robert Lackey, for more than sixty-three years; nieces and nephews, Rodney (Patsy) Warren, Kay (James) Bumgarner, Brent (Monique) Warren - all of Taylorsville and Joy (Paul) McCain of Alabama; her sister-in-law, Bonnie Johnson; along with many dear and special friends....Melva (Ron) Payne of Georgia, Lois Kuykendall, Ethel (Vaughn) Russell, Danny & Kathy Presnell, Claude (Marcia) Barnes, Shirley (Benny) Clary & many others. Her great nieces and nephews....Darren and Ashley Warren, Faith and Shane Phillips, Joel and Janet Warren, Mark and Donna Bumgarner, Jermy and Kristin Bumgarner, Brandon and Traci McCain, Ben McCain, Joseph McCain, Jerusha Pierce, Kelly Warren, Leticia & Mike Dye, Weston & Krysta Warren and Dr. Bradley Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at Liledoun Baptist Church on Friday, November 23, 2012, at 2:00 pm with Dr. James Lockee and Reverend James Bumgarner officiating. Burial to follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Before her funeral service, visitation with the family from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm.
