Lillian Pearl Hines Pennell, 81, of Taylorsville passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Lillian was born on January 31, 1936, to the late Kermit Hines and Marie Norton Hines Stout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years the late Donald Ned Pennell, Sr., in 1994; grandchildren Kisha White and Tyler Teague; a sister Margie White, a brother Rick Stout; and stepfather George Stout. After retiring from Carolina Glove Company in Taylorsville, Lillian spent her time cooking and baking for her family and friends and enjoying her grandchildren. She never met a stranger and opened her Sunday lunch buffet to hundreds over the years. She also earned a reputation for her cooking as she served the Ellendale and Little River Ruritan Clubs at meetings for several years. A devoted member of Little River Baptist Church, she attended the Katie Mullis Sunday School Class. She also sang in the church choir for years and passed on her love for singing to her children and grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters Debbie Harrington and husband Terry; Teresa McNeely and husband Bill; and Kim Pennell, all of Taylorsville; and a son Donald Ned Pennell, Jr., and wife Wendy of Bethlehem. Mrs. Pennell is also survived by her loving grandchildren Tracy, Nathan and wife Tashauna; Kyle and wife Ashley; Lindsay and husband James; Janie, Alston, Alec, and Carter. Great grandchildren include Abby, Bailee, Ragan, Rylan, Lillian, Luke, Owen, Tyler, Andrew, Jacob, and Josie. She has one great great grandchild, Cooper. She is survived by sisters Violet Brown and Kathy Icenhour, brothers Ben Hines and Steve Stout, and sister-in-law Anna Mae Head. Precious memories of her will be cherished by numerous nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm, at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 4 pm at Little River Baptist Church. The Reverends Jeff Chapman, Mark Robinette, and Troy Grant will officiate. Burial will follow in the Little River Baptist Church Cemetery.
