Lindsey Lee Kirby

September 23, 1930 — May 11, 2019

Lindsey Lee Kirby, Sr. age 88, born September 23, 1930 and went to his eternal home on May 11, 2019. Born to Horace Kirby, Sr and Esther Deal Kirby at home in Dudley Shoals, NC (Caldwell County) Lindsey and his family were dairy farmers for 54 years in the Bethlehem community.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, HP (Pete) Kirby, Jr, Max Kirby, Tommy Kirby, and sisters Bernice Kirby Starnes and Sarah Kirby Corne, and daughter-in-law Lisa Brewer Kirby.

Survived by his devoted wife of 62-1/2 years, Ann Moretz Kirby, children Kathy Kirby Reece and husband Keith of Bethlehem, Anita Kirby Bostian and husband Chris of Bethlehem, son Linny Kirby Jr and wife Gina of Bethlehem.
Sisters Susie Kirby Barlow of Lenoir, Martha Kirby Langley of Staley, NC and Hallie Kirby Hefner and husband Bill of Taylorsville. Brother Don Kirby, and wife Sarah of Hudson, NC.

Pawpaw Kirby was a loving grandfather to 8 grandchildren, Joshua Reece, Matthew Reece, John Bostian, Jordan Bostian, Jonah Bostian, Logan Kirby, Caleb Kirby, and Lauren Kirby Hall and their spouses, 13 great grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Lindsey took every opportunity to share his love and wonder of God’s creation with them all. He loved being on his tractor, planting and harvesting each year.

Lindsey loved the Lord and was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethlehem. He served his country as a Corporal in the US Army 22nd Infantry Company C. and had been an active member of Dairy Farmers of America and also served in various positions of local and regional dairy industry organizations. He and Ann were instrumental in the organization and were the first sponsors of the Bethlehem 4H Club. Over the years the Kirbys hosted numerous community hayrides, school field trips to visit the dairy and shared his passion for farming with everyone in the community. Hard work made for a happy life. He was a small man with a big heart and often claimed “he may not be rich money-wise, but he had a lot of wealth tied up in his health, his wife and his family. And for him, that is all he needs”
