Linky Milton “Link” Milstead, age 64, of the Rocky Springs Community, Hiddenite, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 in Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, following a lengthy illness. Born July 2, 1949 to the late Don Milton Milstead and Mary Maxwell Harrington, who survives, he was a professional truck driver, having retired from CommScope. He had also driven for Poteat Motor Lines, Crestline and Pemkay. He was known by his handle, ”Pedal Pusher”. He loved hunting and the shooting sports and raising beef cattle. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Era. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Milstead. He is survived by his wife, of 26 years, Kathy Sue Dishler Milstead of the home. Link has one son, Shawn Milstead and fiancée Denise of Lenoir, as well as one daughter, Jamie Barker and husband Joe, of Harmony. He had a special, “only” granddaughter, Jaya Lynn Barker. He has one brother, Rev. Dale Milstead and wife, Kathy of Statesville. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He is remembered by his best friends, Don Stepp, Tommy Staver, and Curtis Sharpe and two “god granddaughters”, Haylee and Alyssa Sharpe. He also leaves man’s best friend, Angel.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, May 29, 2014, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service, with memorial services, held on Friday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Hiddenite Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Justice officiating. Inurnment with be with the family.
