Lois Irene Elder Icard, age 80, of the Bethlehem Community, Taylorsville, passed away at her residence on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Born August 12, 1933, to the late Franklin Clarence and Bertha Leona Herman Elder. Lois was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, served as a G.A. leader, and for 37 years faithfully cared for the church's nursery. For over 50 years she was employed by Kryser Roth and retired from Ellis Hosery Mills. During retirement she loved to worked in the yard and garden. She was an avid reader and loved cooking for her family. Mrs. Icard was preceded in death by six brothers: Pleas, Ralph, Roy, Paul, Howard and Clarence Elder and three sisters: Dorothy Barnes, Mary Lou Icard and Colene Elder. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Franklin Fox Icard of the home; as well as one son: Phil Franklin Icard and wife Vicki of Taylorsville and one daughter: Vickie Icard Rogers and husband, Donnie of Taylorsville. Left to remember her memories are her grandchildren: Angela Roger Gettler and husband Greg of Taylorsville, Heather Rogers Smith and husband Matt of Greensboro, Phil Icard II and wife Kristi of Bethlehem and Phelecia Icard Wells and husband Todd of Lake Wylie, SC. She adored her great grandchildren, Micah and Joel Gettler, and Gavin Wells. She is also survived by one brother, William "Bill" Elder of Hiddenite. Lois had special friends that provided care for her: Shelia Anderson, Diane Roberts, Cathy Lackey, and Linda Gowins and a special cousin, Dottie Abbott.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January, 18, 2014 from 12:00 noon until 1:45 pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church and funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Dan Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Gary Elder, Tony Sanniota, Matt Smith, Todd Wells, Greg Gettler and Michael Icard. Honorary pallbearers will be Micah Gettler, Joel Gettler and Gavin Wells. In addition to flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Alexander at 50 Lucy Echerd Lane; Taylorsville, NC 28681 or to Bethlehem Baptist Church at 7500 NC Hwy 127; Taylorsville, NC 28681.
