Lorine Jeanetta Smith, age 82, of Granite Falls, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born in Caldwell County on July 30, 1931 to the late McCoy Edgar Suddreth and Inez Edna Bowman. Lorine was a member of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She also took pleasure in gardening, herbs, and raising chickens. Along with her parents, Lorine was preceded in death by her husband: Floyd Philmore Smith; sisters: Reba Suddreth, Essie Mae Huffman, and Betty Gale Suddreth; brothers: Bobby Clay Suddreth and Billy Dale Suddreth. Those left to cherish her memory include four sons: Boyd "Dennis" Rice and wife Schell, Carroll "Wayne" Rice and wife Kathy, Bruce Canaday Suddreth, and Everett "Marvin" Pruitt; three daughters: Doris "Jean" Mummert and husband Lee, Patti Ruth Perrin and husband Allen, and Paula Sue Wise; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; twin sister: Irene Kirby and husband Troy; and brothers: Carroll Suddreth and wife Gillian, and Gerald Suddreth and wife Paula along with a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church. The service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Ingle and Rev. Keith Childers officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers include Mark Sherrill, Bobby Thorne, Robert Thorne, Jimmy Carswell, Kenneth Herman, and Tim McDonald. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Hollar and Steve Eckerd.
