Lucille Lingerfelt Hendren, age 94, of Hiddenite went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 13th, following a brief illness. She was born in Monroe County, Tennessee on February 14, 1920 to the late Robert Eligah Lingerfelt and Dora Green Lingerfelt. Lucille was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church for 65 years where she was privileged to serve on numerous committees and as a Sunday School Teacher. She retired from Broyhill Furniture and was a former officer of the Alexander County chapter of AARP. Lucille was a member of the Alexander Extension Homemakers Association for over 50 years and she was a volunteer at the Hiddenite Center. Her greatest joys were sharing her faith and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years R. Z. Hendren; 3 brothers: Joe Lingerfelt, Fred Lingerfelt and Bill Lingerfelt; and 3 sisters: Frances Hayes, Louella Walker and Amanda Smith. She is survived by two daughters: Helen Hendren Strange and husband Richard of Gastonia, and Janice Hendren Whitley of the home; one granddaughter: Paula Strange Santinelli and husband Daniel of Gastonia; two great grandsons: Eli and Avery Santinelli; two sisters-in-law: Mary Hendren and Ober Pauley; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 16th from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Sulpher Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow immediately with Rev. Steve Parks and Rev. Mitch King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Glenn Dancy, Nathan Davis, Justin Mundy, Brian Walker, Eric Walker, and Marty Pennell.
