Lydia Ruth Harbin

Lydia Ruth Harbin, 55, of Taylorsville, NC passed away peacefully at Carolina Caring in Sherrills Ford, NC on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Lydia was born June 15, 1969, in Catawba County to the late Jerry and Roberta Alexander Harbin.

Lydia was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Taylorsville as long as she was able. The last few years of her life she was a resident of The Green’s in Viewmont, NC. Lydia earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC at Asheville, NC in 1991. She loved science and earned an Associate Degree in Science from Catawba Valley Community College in 1998. In 2015 she received the rank of First-Degree Black Belt from Iron Spirit Martial Arts Institute in Hickory, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Leonard and Eunice Travis Harbin; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Margaret McRee Alexander.

She is survived by her brothers Danny Harbin, Rev. Rob Harbin (Julie) of Tennessee, and sister, Virginia (“Ginger”) of Hickory as well as several aunts and uncles including a favorite aunt, Mary Riley and numerous cousins.

A funeral service will be held for Lydia on Tuesday, December 3 at 6:00 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Taylorsville, Pastor Carver officiating. Committal will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Conover, NC at a later date to be officiated by Rev. Rob Harbin.
