Mamie Carrie McAlpin Lowe, age 71, of Statesville, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 3rd, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Carrie was born on February 7th, 1940 in Alexander County to parents Paul Ulysses and Mamie Zelta Arney Cook McAlpin.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorsville. She enjoyed traveling through the mountains.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Duane Lowe; and 3 sisters: Lena Mae McAlpin, Shirley Ann McAlpin Walker, and Mary (Francis) McAlpin Bentley.  Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Paul Duane Lowe of the home; 2 sisters: Ethyl Melbinia McAlpin Teague of Bethlehem, and Pearl Edith Irene McAlpin McHargue of Statesville; also, 2 brothers: Bryson Ulysses McAlpin of Taylorsville, and William (Bill) Paul McAlpin of Statesville.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews from both sides of her family.  Visitation will be conducted on Saturday, August 6th, at Liledoun Baptist Church from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 7th at Liledoun Church at 3:00 p.m. where Rev. James Lockee and Rev. Keith Bowman will be officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alexander County @ 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, 28681; and Trinity Episcopal Church @ 801 Henkle Road, Statesville, 28625.  Alexander Funeral Service of Taylorsville has been entrusted with arrangements.
