Margery Cain Long, age 85, of Taylorsville, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Valley Nursing Center.  Mrs. Long was born in Roseland, Florida on March 1, 1927 to the late James William Allen and Rachel Maybell Grant Cain. She was retired from Thomasville Furniture and was an avid reader, who loved puzzles and animals, especially her cat, Katie.  She was known for her sewing and wood carving. She made her home in Taylorsville, with her daughter Carla and husband Justin, where she was a special caregiver to her grandchildren Justin, Jason, and Jaycey.  In addition to her parents, Margery was preceded in death by her husband of twenty years, James Carl Long.  She had two children who passed away, Ava Lee Long and Brett Shane Heardon, as well as eleven brothers and sisters.  Those left to cherish her memory include five children, Carla Deal and husband Justin of the home in Taylorsville; Pat Burke and husband Scott of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Charles “Fritz” Heardon and wife Margret of Roseland, Florida; Danny Heardon and special friend Jean also of Florida; and Helen “Susie” Newberry  and special friend Tom of Darby, Montana. Only one sibling survives; a sister, Cleo Strickland of Florida.  Mrs. Long has thirteen grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.  She also had a best friend, Alice Goodwin of Taylorsville.  Visitation will be held on Monday evening, May 14, 2012, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Millersville Baptist Church.  Funeral service will follow at 6:45 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Orren and Rev. Brian Kerley officiating. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May, 15, 2012 at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, NC at 11:00 a.m.  Memorials may be sent to Millersville Baptist Church, 347 Millersville Church Rd., Taylorsville, NC 28681.
