Marie Deal Childers

Marie Deal Childers, age 92 of Taylorsville went to her heavenly home February 8, 2025. She was born to the late Irvin and Mattie Lowe Deal on a snowy day in the Mt. Olive Community of Alexander County on Tuesday January 31, 1933. 

She was the eldest member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she was a former choir leader, custodian, Sunday School teacher and pianist. She established the church library. She also was a member of the Singing Seniors of Alexander County. She graduated from Taylorsville High School in 1950. 

Marie was a homemaker and a gifted oil painter. She passed down her love of music, reading, and arts to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie was a dedicated and faithful prayer warrior. 

She loved get-togethers at the family “Gathering Place”, and watching her great-grandchildren play in the creek. She had a wonderful time with the ladies of her church on Saturday February 1, celebrating her 92nd birthday at Olive Garden. 

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Maynard Levi Childers, sister and brother-in-law, Elline and French Lackey. 

Those left to cherish her memories are daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Charles Lowrance of Taylorsville, son, Steve E. Childers of Taylorsville. Grandson and wife, Eric and Genia Kerley of Troutman. Granddaughter and husband, Amy and Ben Copeland of Waxhaw and step-granddaughter, Lisa and husband Brit Mackie of Summerville, SC. One sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Larry Davis of Taylorsville, six great-grandchildren, Drake, Ciara, Jett and Zane Kerley, Ava and Renton Copeland. Along with a number of nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held Thursday February 13, 2025, at Alexander Funeral Service from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held Friday February 14, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mrs. Childers will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Rev. Monty Mathis will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Pallbearers will be Steve Childers, Eric Kerley, Drake Kerley, Jett Kerley, Ben Copeland, and Brent Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Zane Kerley, Renton Copeland, Michael Davis, and Colby Pardue. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist church at 210 Mt Olive Church Rd, Taylorsville, NC 28681.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the EMS of Alexander County and especially Anthony Grant.
