Martha Louise Bennett, age 71, of Taylorsville passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Born April 30, 1947 to Laura Martha Vonicia Johnson, she was a graduate of Happy Plains High School, Class of 1965. She was retired from Tyson Foods, Wilkesboro, and was a life long member of Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church. Martha was known for her sweet kind and loving spirit. She will be dearly missed. Martha emphasized “be quick and to the point”. She served her church, as the church’s treasurer, on the usher board, and served the Statesville District of the A.M.E. denomination. She was preceded in death by her only sister, Margret Roberta Bennett Rucker and great nephew Ethan Bennett.
In addition to her mother of the home, she is survived by, one daughter, Lacindria Y. Bennett of the home; brother-in-law: John C. Rucker, Jr.; one niece, as well as four nephews survive: Crystal Bennett, Kenneth [Debbie] Bennett, Ronald Eugene Bennett, Douglas [Krystal] Bennett and Terry Bennett, all of Hiddenite. She also has three great nieces and two great nephews: Peaches Bennett, of Hiddenite, Angelica [Dan] Prendergast, of Ft. Hood, Texas, Lee Ann McCurdy, of Catawba County, and Jordan & Jeremiah Bennett, both of Taylorsville. Along with a God-Son to cherish her memory: Bobby Brown, of Columbus, GA; two aunts Elmeta Adams and Florence B. Wilson, both of Hiddenite; and one uncle Calvin [Willie Mae] Bennett, of Statesville.
A Home Going Celebration of Ms. Bennett’s life will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2018, with visitation from 2:00 - 2:30 pm at Zion Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Hiddenite. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm with Rev. Earnest Stinson to lead the Celebration of Life. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers and flower girls will be members of the Class of 1965.
