Mary Alice Barnes Bentley, age 91, formerly of Taylorsville, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. Born on March 28, 1922 to the late James Ronald and Espie Elizabeth Elder Barnes, she was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she was also a member of the Ladies Circle and Lutheran Women's Mission League. Mary enjoyed sewing, reading, and cooking for her family, whom she dearly loved, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ray Edward Bentley; son: Edward Ronnie Bentley; sisters: Betty Barnes Martin, Jettie Lee Barnes, and Lavina Marie Barnes; and brother: Clyde Barnes. Those left to cherish her memory include daughters: Beth Bentley Mize and husband Roscoe of China Grove, and Mary Faye Bentley Hampton and husband Stuart of Taylorsville; sister: Edna Barnes Stephens of Taylorsville; grandsons: Daniel Hampton and wife Tina of Fort Stewart, GA, Jason Hampton and wife Beth of Hickory, Joshua Mize and wife Tuesday of Waxhaw, NC, Ben Hampton and wife Adrienne of Taylorsville, and Rev. Gaven Mize of Shephersville, KY; and great grandchildren: Ashlynn, Alyssa, Riley, Alexis, Calista, and Harper along with five nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, March 10, 2014, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service, in Taylorsville. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Ray Ohlendorf officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
