Mary Childers Pennell,

Mary Estelle Childers Pennell, age 89 of Taylorsville, departed this life on Tuesday afternoon, June 11, 2013.   Born in Alexander County October of 1923 to the late Gillian Alexander and Sally Nimo (Chapman) Childers, she had spent many years working in the furniture industry, and was a member of Three Forks Baptist Church. Estelle loved her family, cooking, singing and especially The Chapman Reunions. Besides her parents, she preceded in death by her husband of 34 years - Thurston Pennell; 5 sisters - Bessie Bell Hubbard, Verna Hubbard, Hessie Harrington, Edna Walker, and Sue Harrington; and one brother - Atwell Childers. Those remaining to cherish her memories are one son - Phillip Dale Pennell; two daughters - Sharon Pennell and Renda Starnes and husband, Richard; four grandchildren - Tonya & Jack Kyle, Jennifer & Jonathan Waters, Casey & Jamie Starnes, and Candice Woodward; seven great grandchildren - Brittany Norton, Bethany Price, Parker Starnes, Molly Starnes, Joshua Waters, Jenna Waters and Jacey Waters; one brother - Escar Childers; sister-in-law: Pearl Childers, as well as a number of nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 13 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service with the  Funeral service to be held on Friday, June 14 at 4:30 pm at Three Forks Baptist Church. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to funeral service.  Rev. Mark Robinette and Rev. Carson Moseley will officiate and  burial to follow in the church cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Mrs. Pennell's great nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Three Forks Baptist - Building Fund at 4685 Three Forks Church Rd, Taylorsville, NC 28681 or to Hospice of Alexander County at 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
