Maxine Davis Chapman Handy, age 89, of Taylorsville, passed away at Brian Center - Tate Blvd, Hickory on Saturday, June 22, 2013. She was born to the late Sherman and Effie (Bumgarner) Davis on September 10, 1923. As a member of Little River Baptist Church she had once taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and had been a member of the Davis Trio. She loved to sing and enjoyed being outside tending to her flowers and gardening. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ray Chapman; two daughters: Faye Moose and Katie Chapman. One brother - Jerry Davis, and one sister - Nelda Sigmon. Those remaining to cherish her memories are two sons: Steve Chapman and wife Kathryn, Mick Chapman and wife Shelly. Three grandchildren: Cheryl Wike, Nicole, Scism, and Candy Lewis. Two great grandchildren: Dalton Wike and Logan Sprinkle. She also leaves behind two brothers: Kenneth Davis and Jimmy Davis; and one sister Louise Chapman, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. Handy will be held on Tuesday, June 25 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 26, beginning at 3:30 pm at Little River Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
