Maxine D. Stafford Mays Mays, age 85, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at her residence.
She was born on a Monday, April 7, 1930 to the late U. Burette (Ret) Stafford and Beulah E. Bowman Stafford.
She was a lifelong member of Friendship Lutheran Church and was employed at Clayton Marcus and Taylor King Furniture for many years as a Floor lady.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Lynn E. Mays in January 1976 and her second husband Daniel B. Mays in January 2012, a brother Howard Stafford and wife Nell-Rose, two brother in laws Rayford Fox and Kelly Bowman, two nieces Linda Dean Stafford and Deborah Bowman Mecimore, granddaughter Tiffany and great granddaughter Karsen.
She is survived by three daughters Vickie Church, Janet M. Walker and husband Ray and Deidra M. Locklear and husband David all of Taylorsville. Two sons Denny Stafford and wife Kathy and Terry Mays and wife Teeney of Taylorsville. Two stepdaughters Deborah Ramsey and husband Doug of Lynchburg, VA and Dianne M. Schwartzkopf of Crossville, TN. Eight grandchildren Denita Stafford and fiancé Greg Bumgarner, Nicole S. Whitener and husband Ty, Brandon Stafford and wife Abbie, Summer W. Eldreth and husband Chad, Amber Walker, Mackenzie Payne, Kaley M. Chapman and husband Colby, Macklinton Shook and wife Brittany. Five step grandchildren Sarah Baker and husband Titus, Stephanie Schwartzkopf, Matt Ramsey and Chris Ramsey and wife Lauren and Miranda Locklear. Her little helpers great grandchildren Jaelyn Hopper, Kya Clark, Kassie, Kohen and Kisha Eldreth and seven other great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Two sisters Christine S. Fox and Mabel S. Bowman and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends Johnsie Lackey, Juanita Shook, Phil and Jennifer Whitaker, Roger and Kay Johnson. Special caregivers Rhonda Sherrill and Tracey Phillips.
Pall bearers are Chad Eldreth, Dale Chapman, Micheal Fox, Zachary Stafford, Troy Herman, Robert Herman, Jaelyn Hopper and Kohen Eldreth.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 6:00-8:30 pm at Friendship Lutheran Church. The funeral will be held Friday, February 12, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the church. The Rev. Carol Yeager, Rev. Gregory Yeager, and Rev. Jeff Chapman will be officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family requests that in addition to flowers that memorials be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658
