Maynard Samuel Coonse,

Maynard Samuel Coonse, age 85, of Taylorsville, passed away on Friday, March 18th, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center.  He was born in Alexander County on March 12th, 1926 to parents Partee & Blanche Teague Coonse.  He served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2. He was an avid gardener, enjoying everything he grew.  Maynard was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary; his son, Timothy Partee Coonse; brothers: Partee Jr. and Charlie Coonse; and his sister, Bernice Coonse. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons: Jeff Austin & wife Martha, and Charles Douglas Austin & special friend Susan McBride – each of Taylorsville. He also leaves behind his daughter, Ranae Ciccotelli & husband Fred – of West Linn, OR.  Grandchildren: Justin, Lauren, & Tiffany Austin – all of Taylorsville; Kylie Coonse of Hawaii; and Danielle Corpe – of West Linn, Oregon.  He was a great-grandfather to 5 and had a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Monday, March 21st, 2011 at Antioch Baptist Church from 2:30 – 4 pm, with the funeral service following at 4 inside the sanctuary.  Rev. Mark Morris will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where the DAV Post 84 will provide military honors.  Memorials may be made in memory of Maynard to Antioch Baptist Church @ 580 Antioch Church Road.  Taylorsville 28681.   Alexander Funeral Service has been entrusted with arrangements.
