Ned Watts Pennell, age 72, of Taylorsville passed away after an extended illness on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born in Alexander County on February 7, 1941 to the late Clyde and Evelyna Pennell. Ned was retired from CommScope in Sherrills Ford where he had worked for over 26 years. He had also worked at Schneider Mills and Broyhill and attended Salem Lutheran Church. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Dale and Larry Pennell; sister: Wanda Sigmon; and grandson: Bailey Pennell. Those left to cherish his memory include his son: Barry Lynn Pennell of Sparta; granddaughter: Whitney Lauran Price and husband Greg of Taylorsville; former wife: Louise Pennell; brother: Paul Pennell of Raleigh; sister: Iran Pennell Warren & husband Ray of Hiddenite; and niece Kim James and husband Terry and their children, Brooke and Cody of Taylorsville.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service in Taylorsville. Services will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Ray Ohlendorf officiating. Burial will follow at Three Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Seth Chapman, Edwin Chapman, Merle Moose, Jim Herman, Charley Sigmon and Justin Childers.
