Mrs. Ocie Mae Hayes, age 96, formerly of the Linney's Grove Community, passed away at her residence in Taylorsville on Saturday, August 25, 2012.  She was born November 16, 1915 in Wilkes County to the late, Alonzo and Annie Johnson Barnette and was a member of Linney's Grove Baptist Church.  Mrs. Hayes was a homemaker and enjoyed her life on the farm with her family.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Sanford Hayes, whom she wed on December 23, 1938; one son, Robert Gary Hayes, whom passed during a causality of the Viet Nam War making her a gold star mother. She also had lost two sisters, an infant twin sister, Hessie Mae Barnette and Lois Barnette Poole, as well as a brother, Cecil Barnette.  She is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Hayes Mauney Winchell and husband Rohe, Dorothy Mae Hayes Kerley and husband Dan, all of Taylorsville; Grandchildren include, Lisa Kerley Mace and husband Kip, Valerie Kerley Cockrell, and husband Jeff, Jenny Kerley Carter and Eric Hayes Mauney; Great grandchildren are La Shay and Jordy Mace, Marah and Madelyn Cockrell.  Mrs. Hayes is survived by one sister, Dorothy Barnette Hayes of High Point and one brother Hugh Barnette of Cleveland, NC.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Linney's Grove Baptist Church and funeral services will follow at 4:00 pm. Rev. William Weise and Rev. Jerry Gwaltney will officiate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvin Hayes, Tim Hayes, Mike Barnette, Mike Hayes, Fred Poole, Dexter Hayes and Bill Barnette.
